If you thought the speed of writing code was your problem - you have bigger problems | Debugging Leadership

AI coding tools are optimising the wrong thing and nobody wants to hear it. Writing code was already fast. The bottleneck is everything else: unclear requirements, review queues, terrified deploy cultures, and an org chart that needs six meetings to decide what colour the button should be.

Debugging Leadership

“Even if you are impressed by what LLMs can do, remember that what you’re impressed by is the result of burning more money than anybody has ever burned on anything.“

_This_ should make everyone question their reliance on AI even if ethical, environmental and all the other concerns do not. It cannot go on like this much longer.

Why Are We Still Doing This?

LLM access is relatively cheap now because the LLM vendors are discounting their price at a massive loss, subsidized by VC, in order to get you addicted and to drive as much skilled human labor as possible out of the workforce permanently.

The goal is monopolization, and if they’re successful, you’ll see monopolistic pricing in the future.

The whole "AI" industry is just based on the hope that they can deskill people fast enough that they'll have to rent back cognitive support systems. Forever.

It's like Uber. Just that they don't try to break existing transportation infrastructures but your brain.

It’s so depressing people so hyped over the instant gratification of AI slop code at the cost of their own thinking and learning.

First, they came for your data and behaviors. Then they pushed custom algorithms to get you hooked on content. And now they want you to offload your thinking, creations, and wonders onto them.

Pick up a damn book, learn something, and go touch some grass. Ugh.

Why are we giving up on the beauty of Human creativity for the machine average ???

“I learn by failing, and if the LLM takes that work away from me, I won’t really understand what I’m doing.”

Why I Don’t Vibe Code

A “brief” accounting of various reasons why vibe coding has just never clicked for me personally as a developer.

I’m officially done with takes on AI beginning “Ethical concerns aside…”.

No! Stop right there.

Ethical concerns front and center. First thing. Let’s get this out of the way and then see if thre is anything left worth talking about.

Ethics is the formalisation of how we are treating one another as human beings and how we relate to the world around us.

It is *impossible* to put ethics aside.

What you mean is “I don’t want to apologise for my greed and selfishness.”

Say that first.

If you don’t like programming, I invite you to do something else with your time instead of promoting the machine that lets you not do it. Some people actually like it, you jerks.
