Just thinking aloud here, I don't have a proposed solution, but apart from the fact I swear a lot and talk about smutty books and vibrators part of the reason I'm not encouraging my family off Facebook and onto the Fediverse is that I think it would be very easy for my less tech savvy relatives to get scammed here.

With the collapse of med mastodon and mstdn.ca I'm getting a huge influx of new follow requests from mutuals moving off these instances, so familiar names and avatars at different instances. And I'm following them all back, but if one turned out to be a scammer that copied someone's real picture I obviously wouldn't give them money but that's a classic Facebook scam that a lot of people fall for. The account movement process here sort of trains us to just accept follow requests from people who look familiar but with slightly different accounts.

As I say I'm not really sure what if anything could be improved there, but it is something I worry about.
