I went to a local Asian (mostly Chinese) market yesterday and picked up this 7Up. Turns out it’s Iraqi 7Up, bottled in Erbil. It definitely tastes different to both Mexican and American 7Up. I can’t quite tell what the different notes are but I also know Gulf area Coke and Pepsi taste different too.

Did you know that the first documented thanksgiving celebration by Europeans in what is now the United States was actually in San Agustin de la Florida in 1565, by the Spanish and a local Indigenous group, and not, as the myth goes, the 1621 Pilgrim feast?

This weekend I'm going to tackle ramen from scratch (except for the noodles). I'm making Hakata-style mountain of scallions ramen. It's definitely a multi-day process and I hope it's worth it!

I’ve been baking bread for about 16 years, but only got into sourdough this July. I’ve made my last two loaves using the Tartine basic country bread recipe/method. They have been the best sourdough loaves I’ve made so far. Amazing taste and gorgeous crumb.

If you make sourdough and haven’t tried this recipe yet, do yourself a favor and give it a try.

(You might need a proofing box because they proof the dough at 78F-82F)

I recently learned about the nutmeg and mace cooperative in Pollachi, India. I'm trying to find where I can buy Pollachi mace but I haven't found anything. At any rate, more growers should follow the example of the growers in Pollachi and cut the middle man.
