Voters can no longer weight information like "Trump sat watching TV while the mob tried to hang Mike Pence" against information like "Janet Jackson said Kamala Harris isn't black" or weight the fact of that little 4-year-old girl dying at the border with "Trump says Kamala's a communist." Or weight the fact that eggs cost more in the US with the fact that prices are high across the globe.
Our brains didn't evolve to handle all this information, prioritize it or sort fact from BS.
