I believe in humans: our capacity for love, connection, and re-invention. 🧡💛💚💜
That’s why I write optimistic future fiction: stories that reflect the best of humanity, expand our possibility horizons, and inspire imaginative action. 🌈🌈🌈

Damian Penston, writes in The Sufficiency and Wellbeing Magazine about the consequences of chronic insecurity on human behaviour and asks 'what kinds of economic systems are worth organising society around in the first place?' (https://www.sufficiencywellbeing.com/p/why-modern-economies-keep-people).

I suspect that the society would be a lot more relaxed and happy, with far less conflict. What do you think?

Why modern economies keep people in survival mode

What if one of the biggest blind spots in economics is that it has no serious framework for understanding how chronic insecurity changes human behaviour?

How about managing forests to also produce food, gradually introducing complementary plants? This interview on the Sufficiency and Wellbeing substack explains how. This is the kind of idea that I look for to incorporate in my optimistic future fiction. (Scroll down in the post for English)

#WritersCoffeeClub 27 March:
If you had to pick one, would you say writing is more exciting or cathartic process for you?

Exciting. I never know what's going to appear each morning and usually, it's delightful.

A cause for optimism: The Center for Humane Technology comments on rulings against Meta. More important than the fines, is an opportunity to impose design changes on their products. It's about time they got held to account for what they make. I hope to live long enough to see them come over to the good side 😇.

It just turned midnight here so I guess it is #SolarPunkSunday and I'll plug my novella, The Blossoming of the Big Tree, about an old woman who has to organize the defense of her decentralized country when a colonizer invades to steal the technology that makes it a #solarpunk utopia. It's available on pre-order in all your favourite stores, and on my new small press site, where you can read a free sample. https://www.ododopress.com/novellas/the-blossoming-of-the-big-tree/

Interesting article on how a mini forest is being used to give learners a break from extreme heat in their classrooms. I love low-tech solutions that are also nature friendly. https://groundup.org.za/article/langa-learners-beat-the-heat-in-their-pocket-forest/

#WritersCoffeeClub – 6th Mar. Is there a local writing community near you? Do you participate in it?

Yes, one in Porto, Portugal. We meet every Monday morning and write for 90 minutes and then chat about what we are writing and how it went. The group includes all kinds: trad published, bloggers, self published, grad students, people writing family histories etc. There's a stable core group and many who drop in and out. We've been running for years. It seems to work.
