As a writer, I believe genAI removes the *joy* from creating art and strangles the introspection and growth it provides.
It's also one of the most environmentally devastating uses of the underlying hardware.

@trendless The full research article ("
Is it really treatment-resistant depression? Parasympathetic and sympathetic dysfunction as a treatable contributor to depressive symptoms") is a fascinating read.

6 year study. 8128 patients. Article focuses on the 2197 who had received diagnosis of depression.

I keep saying "wow" as I read it. This could be life-changing for so many.

"What we found, again and again, was that these patients were not treatment resistant in any meaningful psychiatric sense. Their brains were being starved of blood. The sympathetic system was failing to move blood upward, or the parasympathetic system was dilating vessels at exactly the wrong moment, or both. Once you measure the two branches independently and correct the specific imbalance, the so-called depression lifts, not because we treated depression, but because we treated the physiology that was masquerading as depression"

Nearly half of the study cohort (48.3 percent) had been diagnosed with long- or post-COVID syndrome, a population now recognized as a vast and troubled reservoir of autonomic dysfunction.

Treating autonomic dysfunction can relieve symptoms of treatment-resistant depression

Consider a house with the water main half shut. The faucets sputter. The toilet runs all night. The garden wilts. You could call a plumber for the faucet, a landscaper for the garden, a different plumber for the toilet, and every one of them would fix something while fixing nothing.

@LoganFive I know I'm going to catch a *ton* of flack for this, lose followers even, but here it goes.

A lot of the stuff cat people post feels like they're victims of Stockholm syndrome.

(Former cat owner! RIP, Muffin.)

As much as I appreciate seeing the anti-birthright people getting a 7-way beating on the merits, part of me wishes Roberts had just stood up and said: “motherf***ers, an EO is just an email to your staff. It’s not a law, and it damn well isn’t an amendment. Get the f*** out.”
Even better would be for him to add “and you numb-nuts in the media: stop writing headlines that treat EOs as anything other than sharpie-scrawled letter stuffed in one of those brown interoffice envelope things. For f***’s sake: They. Are. Not. Laws.” But beating on the merits it is, I guess.

A Blanket Technician.
I don't know what this expression is, but it looked amusing so here you go.

A STRANGE GAME. THE ONLY WINNING MOVE IS NOT TO PLAY.

That line from Joshua / WOPR from the climax of "Wargames" has saved me so much grief and wasted time.

I sat out cryptocurrency, NFTs, and now genAI because of those words.

I know my personality and my tendency to zone into hyperfocus when latching onto a "cool" new toy. All three of those technologies were obviously being hyped. I decided to "wait and see" and it was all hype, no real substance. I would have spent so much time and mental energy; I could have fallen victim to the sunk cost fallacy and become a zealot.

Each one was more exploitative than the one before. The more I learned about them, the happier I was that I didn't jump on the train. Money laundering, environmental damage, power use, intellectual theft, relying on near slave labor, attacking creativity, encouraging greed. The underlying technology might be neat or useful but the people with billions of dollars invested in these technologies are not good people. They should not rewarded.

They know that quote. They have to; they are all geeks at heart.

They saw the movie. They know they are releasing something as potentially devastating as nuclear war.

They know that.

But they think they are smarter and better.

They think they are the ones who will "win" the unwinnable scenario.

Capitalism, the ultimate unwinnable scenario, reinforces that belief.

But we are all losing.

I prefer Poisson d'Avril over April Fool's Day.
STOP DOING APRIL FOOLS'!
Words were never intended to mean the opposite of their usual meaning!
Thousands of years of speaking yet no real world use for not just saying what you mean!
Wanted to say something unclear just for laughs? We had a tool for that: it was called "puns!"

Look at what April Fools' day users have been demanding your respect for. These are REAL April Fools' day statements made by REAL speakers!

* Devil's Advocate
* Shitposts
* "Stop Doing" memes

"Hi, I am lying but it's okay because I'm doing it on April 1."

They are being completely truthful.
