Pulled out an old Chromebook that hasn’t had new updates in years. Flashed the MrChromebox firmware and put ChromeOS Flex on it. Up to date again. Pretty easy!

My wife and I sometimes have a karaoke night at home, and this Chromebook is what I use to run the show. It’s all browser-based. I have a local web server to manage the song queue which folks can load on their phones over wifi, and the video/audio are cast from a tab on the Chromebook to a Chromecast connected to my TV.

I just installed some old Adobe CS5 apps for Windows on Fedora Linux. They work! Wine is so cool.
@bit101 Randomly saw a parrot carving and thought that might be a fun concept for you to try. https://www.etsy.com/listing/4479453838/green-macaw-parrot-wooden-parrot
With everything going on with AI/LLMs, billionaire neo robber barons, out of control inflation, economic recession, and *gestures at the state of the world*, I’m surprised that there hasn’t been increasing conversations about unions among software developers (but actually, everybody else too!) in the USA. As workers, we need to protect ourselves and advocate for our right to a quality life. We’re stronger together.

Got a used ThinkPad to continue my Linux journey. It’s a P-series, so it’s a big heavy beast of laptop. Spent the weekend moving files and things over from my Mac.

My external monitor wouldn’t wake from sleep. Apparently, ThinkPads speak DisplayPort natively, but translate to HDMI. Switching the other connector at the end of my USC-C out from HDMI to DisplayPort fixed it. Luckily my monitor supports both. Confirmed the Mac can use the same cable, so ordered a new KVM switch with DisplayPort.

Bill Premo from Newgrounds is building a new Flash. From the description he provides, the feature set is quite comprehensive: .fla/XFL import, drawing engine, shape tweening, scripting, even embedded sound editor and more.

AI agent "contributes" PR to matplotlib.
PR gets rejected.
AI agent *writes and publishes blog to shame the maintainer*.

What a time to be alive.

As a big fan of the #Muppets, I absolutely loved the new special with Sabrina Carpenter. To me, it felt like they captured the vibe of the original Muppet Show in every way that matters.

A nice mix of sketches, musical numbers, and backstage shenanigans. Jokes for the adults watching too. In my opinion, they absolutely nailed it. I really hope that it does well enough to convince Disney to create a full series. I need more episodes!

I also couldn't successfully run Affinity on Wine with Asahi Linux, since the M1 CPU is ARM64, but now I have another chance to try it again with Fedora on x86_64. I might eventually try other open source image editors, but I'd prefer to stick with a tool that I know.
However, I was happy enough with Asahi's Fedora base, so now I'm trying regular Fedora on a different machine with x86_64 architecture that I had lying around. So far, it wakes properly on mouse/keyboard, and the test suite that caused the system freeze passes successfully!
