First impressions, just creating a new account on another server and importing data on who you follow (which has to be done via individual CSV file download/uploads) alerts everyone you followed, and they might then follow you again before you've even done the migrate option that updates everyone's following profile automatically.

I assume the process handles the overlap, but this is a little messy. I'd rather this just work without notifying the people who follow me.

Tempted to migrate my profile to hachyderm.io, now that they have registrations open again. Seems to make sense to not be on the biggest server (mastodon.social) and hope they can handle scaling.

The process (backup data, join new server, import data, verify other profile, redirect on old account, migrate to new account) seems straightforward enough.

Anyone gone through this and aware of any nuances? You keep your followers, but not your posts.

I find myself struggling to make checking, much less posting to Mastodon a regular habit, so the news that its lost a chunk of its new regular users isn't surprising. A certain amount of churn is also to be expected.

I've always liked the overall idea of an algorithmic feed, and Twitter's works well enough for me. It has more content to chose from and knows me well enough compared to here.

Not giving up here, but Mastodon's timeline still feels a bit random to me.

Elon Musk drove more than a million people to Mastodon – but many aren’t sticking around

More than 130,000 people were joining the new independent social media network a day in November. So why hasn’t it taken off?

Update: Here's how the new #Mastodon sticker fits in with the rest on my laptop. I still wish it weren't so dang big :(

Genuinely torn about making these kind of posts here. If I start posting '🧵: Top 10 JavaScript Resources Every Beginner Needs to Know', please remind me that that of clout bait is awful.
roadmap.sh is a great resource to help anyone learning #webdevelopment topics figure out what to learn first/next and Kamran there recently updated the main frontend and backend paths with suggestions for 2023.
It's not just for beginners though. It also has you covered if you need a guide for, say specifically GraphQL: https://roadmap.sh/graphql

Interesting thought of the day: People often comment that #Mastodon feels so much nicer than other long standing social networks. Is that because their server's community enforcement is working? Or because the theme there didn't attract bad eggs? Or because so far, those that have migrated are all similar enough that conflicts don't arise?
Is Mastodon working because of its design or because of where we are in the timeline of a great migration?
#ADHD folks often benefit from visual reminders, so I'm going to try and squeeze in a #Mastodon sticker on my laptop to nudge me to post more.
Might need to move the EU one over (I have duplicates), since I can't find anything smaller than 7.6 x 8.2 cm.
