I took a deep dive into Meta’s “Hyperion” data center in Richland Parish, LA.
The scale of the tax breaks that Meta received are staggering. The company won’t have to pay any sales tax on severs, networking gear, or GPUs.
Sales taxes on just the ~$35 billion they will spend on GPU’s could fund the Louisiana state police for 7 years, or pay the salaries of all public school teachers in the state for more than a year.
$10 billion of investment. Code names to disguise projects and companies. Mixed opinions. Skyrocketing property values. And enough tax breaks to pay every state cop in Louisiana for seven years.
