Here's the kids' work from today's illuminated mushroom-making workshop; this was a class of year 6 pupils

I decided that I am upset enough about Zipcar to write to the Mayor of London. I don't expect anything to come of it particularly, but this is how democracy is supposed to work I understand…

Contact or visit City Hall

Find out how to get in touch with us and how to visit our buildings and squares.

London City Hall
TfL should buy it. But they probably won't.
The sheer number of people I know who are really disappointed that Zipcar UK is closing down. Genuinely part of the fabric of London at this point, with no real competitors.
In contrast, there are (/were) 7 ZipCar vans parked on the street at various locations within a 5 minute walk of me. At least one of these is always available. I can book it on my phone in less than 5 minutes for a couple of hours, then just drop it back off and walk away
There are a bunch of jobs that just won't be logistically feasible now. The key thing was not the price, but the convenience. The nearest reliable van hire place to me is a 20 minute cycle ride away and then at least a half hour drive to get it back to the studio. It's only open during certain hours. It takes half an hour to do the paperwork and collect a vehicle and then I have to stop at a fuel station nearby when I return it or get stung a fortune for any shortfall. This shit all adds up…
To wit: central/north London car club locations with and without ZipCar included…

Shit! ZipCar are pulling out of the UK!

This is a fucking ball-ache: I have come to completely rely on being able to pick up a vehicle (most often vans) at short notice on the street round here. A real gut punch to reducing car ownership

Are there any realistic alternatives? Enterprise Car Club appears to be about 7 cars across the whole of London

The idea is to talk about what we do as light/installation artists and then get the young people to have a go at making their own work. Hopefully we can cluster all of them together at the end and make one big installation
I am experimenting with making paper, illuminated mushrooms for a primary school workshop tomorrow

Hung the kid's lanterns on the tree today (and put one of our big stars at the top). It looks a bit unbalanced, but we wanted to keep the lanterns near enough to the bottom that the pupils' work can be seen properly from the ground
