I am curious, optimistic about where tech is going, and happiest outdoors. I spend most of the time talking about #geospatial technology, skiing, and biking

See you in Banff for NORTH51!
I'm working at being better on Mastodon... and that's getting easier as birdsite continues it's slow death.
Today oin the Nowhere Podcast I welcome Jason Winn, AICP, RA, Founder and Director at Narrative Infrastructure. The term narrative infrastructure refers to the basic structure that underlies the rest of the infrastructures that we all live around, and that’s what we’ll be talking about in this episode. https://hubs.ly/Q01NJQwJ0

I passed the 175km mark today on my new bike, and I'm totally hooked!

That's also 175km that I would have previously driven, and were replaced by riding.

Other's added that "space" isn't a single location and the cost to move from one orbit to another can be very high. Maybe less than the cost of dedicated launch, but not always

On Day 2 I have had more conversation with people about this comment and takes are varied.

Some pointed out that air travel is harder to aggregate as *when* people travel matters greatly, not just the fact that they're going.

I'm at #smallsatshow #smallsatsymposium this week and one of the panels had a great comparison of the A380 to @SpaceX #starship.

The A380 didn't kill routes flown by 727s or turbo prop aircraft - it's a different customer and set of requirements

Starship will be incredible, but there is still a demand for small launch

This is an amazing and excellent must-read for anyone in analytics. The amount of analysis you can do on a single box has grown and grown while the amount of analysis organizations really get value from has stayed more or less constant. There are still some workloads that need specialty OLAP systems, but most organizations don't have them and, more important, won't EVER have them. https://motherduck.com/blog/big-data-is-dead/
