Safe water & sanitation are not universal in rich countries, though we sometimes pretend they are ... even as we point out the deficiencies elsewhere.
That fiction must end. There is plenty of unfinished business at home.

There is a description of "farmstead toilets" on tenant farms in rural Alabama, & their role is described primarily as one of fly control.
Flies have received a lot less attention in WASH than they probably deserve in the last several decades.
