Yesterday was the day: FB and Insta accounts scheduled for full deletion. I prepared the move over a month - exchanging new contacts with friends that matter, backups, sending non-overly dramatic explanation posts.
Then preparing a new digital life - one that I fully own.
The press of the button is harder than you may think - I guess it feels like going into detox.. and maybe that's exactly it.

So (project 1) I now have Syncthing running on a VPS to host my Obsidian vaults (actually inside a Koofr vault on one of my main Linux machines) and "portable" versions of Obsidian and Synthing on a USB stick also connected to the VPS so I can just plug in and work anywhere without a trace.
It's been a lot of fun, a great learning experience and an even better reminder that being too complacent with big tech has a lot of hidden prices - some of which I want to stop paying.

WhatsApp was going to Element X, but that's a tough one (as you may understand - the day will come!)
Notion has given way to Obsidian (and it's changed my workflow beyond description!)

ChatGPT has been crucial for finding the right applications for me and also for creating new things and treading new ground - like self-hosting, yes!
