“First of all, they are completely wrong”

I feel like Jensen Huang should have watched that famous SJ video—where SJ responds to an angry OpenDoc engineer—a couple of times.

I’ve been on the Claude Code Max tier ever since late May. The value it has given me in just the last 72 hrs, has far exceeded its total cost so far. This thing is bonkers.

#Baltic Friends!

I'm going to be travelling starting in #Helsinki and then working my way through #Estonia, #Latvia, and #Lithuania mid-June through mid-July this summer. While I expect most schools will be on vacation, I'm still looking for any interesting #UX groups/teams that I could visit. Please feel free to pass my name along to anyone.

I remain of the opinion that you shouldn’t design a GUI toolkit until you have tried writing a simple DTP program (line drawing and text blocks with rich text flowing between them) in OpenStep.

You don’t have to reimplement OpenStep. You don’t even need to copy it closely, there are lots of things that are a product of their time and could be done better.

But please, please, please stop building things that are so much worse than 1994 technology that ran nicely on a 33 MHz CPU with 8 MiB of RAM.

Petite histoire: this was so broken back in 2018, the app wouldn't build anymore when I first tried to add shortcuts. It was stuck in build loops, wouldn't find classes etc.

I spent the bigger part of a flight between Brussels and Melbourne (~24 hrs) giving up on frameworks, and manually assigning each and every file to the right targets.

When the build finally succeeded, somewhere above the Indian Ocean, I clapped so loud in my hands, I woke up my neighbor 😬 Stares were given.

Another thing Claude helped with, was finally organizing the code base in frameworks for the reusable parts.

Years ago when a mixed Obj-C/Swift code base was a massive pain in the ass, I gave up on that and just added the shared files to each target manually.

To see this working after 10+ years of fighting files, bridging headers and targets is just wonderful 🥹

I used to spend hours localizing the app in Dutch, French and German (Belgium's official languages) and English. Nowadays it takes mere minutes for Claude to update my +18K lines xcstrings file.
I picked up the massive refactoring job I stared a while back for @railerapp again. This time I replaced (with the help of Claude Code) all the old shortcuts and added a few new ones. The old ones basically opened the app in the right place or showed your Super Favorite. The new ones are fully parametrized. Very happy with this.

A demonstration of how English scrobbles up words from other languages, in two sentences.
