Even taking this idea seriously (a big leap). Who are you going to sell these tokens to? Other companies that want to buy compute from your employer?
Given that the cost of compute trends down, tokens are not like a stock, their value would probably decrease faster than fiat currency.
@peritia
For a #selfhosted #irc client with bouncer and a web interface, probably hard to beat #TheLounge.

@michelamarie
Makes sense, but after the implosion of #freenode, I'm surprised projects didn't decide to have more control over their official channels.
#XMPP servers are pretty lightweight, so I assume it wouldn't be a big barrier to host one and federate.

#irc

Does anyone know of a good global news #rss feed to follow?
I'm looking for something with the quality bar of Reuters, but with less volume.
I don't want to get every single news article, just a handful of top headlines of the day.
Curious as to why #xmpp has not replaced #irc on libera for the open source community.
Nothing against IRC, but given the more federated nature of XMPP, why are projects not adopting it? What hidden barriers does it have?
Is it just a case of this: https://xkcd.com/1782/

I've noticed that my feed on #miniflux has become far less repetitive ever since I've filtered out the word #AI from the #HackerNews #RSS feed.
@waldschnecke
I agree, it's a very maximalist design.
IRC is probably a bit too alien for someone who didn't grow up with it and just used discord. The lack of more image-oriented features might be off-putting as well.
Matrix is probably more similar, but it's much heavier to self-host.
Maybe XMPP could strike a better balance between features and resource usage.
@faraiwe
Now that we've established that we were referring to different things, have you considered that the people who are going through the pains of hosting more complex solutions have indeed heard of IRC, and made a conscious decision to host something a bit more friendly to the end user?
@faraiwe
I'm aware of those.
You're talking about complexity in hosting.
I'm talking about complexity from a user's perspective.
Two very different things.
