Host Samah named our session as her highlight of the day! 🥳🎉🎊🕺💃

Speaker pro tip (from a #PublicSpeaking coach):

Before my livestream appearance this morning, I watched the session ahead of mine. (At a very early hour for me, and it was worth it!)

I try to do this at live events too, up until it’s time for my pre-speaking rituals.

Getting a feel for the room’s energy helps me show up more attuned, grounded, and connected, which makes me a better speaker.

2. Real life is interesting. Open your first 30 seconds with a bold, true line from your experience and you’ll get the audience's attention.

3. Impostor feelings are normal. You don’t need to overcompensate. You can shift out of it fast so it doesn’t run the show.

When confidence comes from within, you don’t need fake volume. I built a quick 2‑minute belief reset to make you feel confident, grounded, and real. Magnetically yourself.

I watched a #webinar today where the speaker was all performance. BIG ENERGY. BIGGER ACT. It felt forced. Cringey. My body tensed. Ever had that happen?

We don’t have to become a different person on stage, even in #tech. If loud is you, amazing. Be loud. If it’s not, stop trying to be something you’re not.

Things I teach my tech public speaking clients:

1. Quiet authenticity is loud. I held a room softly for 45 minutes at #WCEH. It works. (Link in the P.S.)

Preparing to be on camera is a lot like prepping for the #stage. Before recording as a #podcast guest yesterday, I did my usual routine:

✅ movement
✅ grounding
✅ breathwork
✅ water
✅ clarifying my desired outcome for audience & I

Camera‑specific:

✅ mic & cam check
✅ laptop height & angle
✅ background
✅ clothing & makeup colors
✅ posture
✅ imagining the audience

What’s one thing you do before #speaking?

I had the joy of sitting down with Winstina Hughes, MCRP of Support Inclusion in Tech to talk about the origins of #WPDiversity, my journey in community leadership, and why helping tech professionals speak on stage with confidence remains my passion.

"Speedcuber"?

It was never my goal to be fast on the Rubik's cube. I just wanted to have a fun outlet for my hands and brain.

But every time I learn more algorithms and fingertricks, I just get faster.

My fastest time is currently 45 seconds!

This hobby is taking enough of my downtime that I think I should probably start calling myself a Speedcuber. :)
