To Invade Homes, Tech Is Trying to Get in Your Kitchen

"tech companies and appliance makers, aiming to deepen their relationships with customers, are increasingly targeting the room that is synonymous with togetherness."

Where did I heard this call for giving away privacy before... this "zucks"

To Invade Homes, Tech Is Trying to Get in Your Kitchen

For many people, kitchens are the center of the home. Tech and appliance makers, aiming to deepen ties to customers, are increasingly targeting that room with smart devices.

And here is a great app to spy on WhatsApp users... Which is apparently easy. https://thenextweb.com/apps/2018/03/29/your-whatsapp-buddies-might-be-spying-on-you-with-this-invasive-new-app/ … #nextcloud
Your WhatsApp buddies might be spying on you with this invasive new app

Chatwatch uses WhatsApp’s public online/offline status feature to tell users how often their friends check the app, and estimate when they go to bed each day; it can even correlate data on two contacts you choose to guess if they’ve been talking to each other.

@Tutanota
Thanks to all of you for your work and commitment!
Waiting for those new apps! :)

So Facebook employees are mad for the leak of an internal memo calling for growth-at-all-costs, no by the corporate behavior and their choice of being part of that. They call for people with "integrity" and "moral compass and loyalty" angry with the leaker.

It's just me or they have it all backwards? Facebook is reaching higher levels of cynicism.

Here are the internal Facebook posts of employees discussing today’s leaked memo

"I’ve always thought our ‘open but punitive’ stance was particularly vulnerable to suicide bombers."

As I like to support this kind of services I have upgraded to premium my account in @Tutanota. It's a private, secure and simple email service.
They offer real free accounts with 1Gb storage. A great option to Gmail/Outlook/Yahoo (actually not free services).

Events are probably the most difficult function to replace. As you say everybody just use FB for that. It seems there are alternatives, as web and apps, but no many use them. It would be great to suscribe but FB just close the doors to integrations for obvious reasons. You can get everything inside, but you can't get anything outside :/
@violegp
I use Simple Calendar, no cloud sync just local. Also other apps by same developer on F-Droid are useful. Don't kown about cloud options.
By the way here us an useful guide:

Awesome, thanks!
I have been following this issues about privacy & attention economy for the past year. I deleted a FB account before, then noticed that no one on my friends knew much about it. I signed up again on FB for a few months to share about this issues. Now I deleted facebook for good. Probably I will get a blog or webpage to keep learning, writing and sharing. I believe we have to recover the internet. Not easy but surely worth and even fun. Like Mastodon!
