"Major US climate website likely to be shut down after almost all staff fired."
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jun/11/climate-website-shut-down-noaa

"Climate.gov, the gateway website for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (#NOAA)’s Climate Program Office, will imminently no longer publish new content, according to multiple former staff responsible for the site’s content whose contracts were recently terminated…The purge spared two web developers, which [a contractor] says is a concerning sign. The contractor said: 'My bigger worry, long-term, is I would hate to see it turn into a propaganda website for this administration, because that’s not at all what it was.'"

Does anyone now of open access monitoring initiatives that no only look at main OA types (green, gold) but also specifically at diamond (no fee) OA and things like immediacy/embargo and at licenses of OA publications? We are starting to look at that in The Netherlands (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15061684, in Dutch, but with data and code)) but I would love to learn about similar initiatives.
Project vernieuwing open access monitoring - Rapportage fase 1 - peer-reviewed artikelen

How Do You Measure Corporate Power? Count the Marines in LA

The same corporations that built their profits exploiting undocumented labor spent 50 years teaching America to hate those workers. Now there are combat boots on American streets.

I've heard that today is the last work day at the National Endowment for the Humanities for over 100 people that the regime terminated while gutting the agency.

From the moment I entered grad school in 1995, the NEH was part of the professional air I breathed. Not just the funding, but also the guidance, the examples, the methods, the connections, the collaborations, the rejections, the reviewers' comments, the role models, the projects I have worked on every day. These folks knit us together. 💔

People don't understand what a monumental achievement the EU is. For thousands of years the continent that would tear itself apart every few decades, the EU stopped all that. We should have thanked them every day for being allowed in, instead we decided to fuck it all off.

When it comes to #ClimateChange, it is not that tech can't save us, but that it won't. Global emissions need to be cut by 4x in the next decade (*) to avoid catastrophic warming.

There is simply not enough time to do this through technological means: no technology we currently have can do this, and to develop a new one takes much longer.

Emissions Gap Report 2024

As climate impacts intensify globally, the Emissions Gap Report 2024: No more hot air … please! finds that nations must deliver dramatically stronger ambition and action in the next round of Nationally Determined Contributions or the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C goal will be gone within a few years. The report is the 15th edition in a series that brings together many of the world’s top climate scientists to look at future trends in greenhouse gas emissions and provide potential solutions to the challenge of global warming.
