@karotte's field guide to embedded CPU cores:

- does it have a USB connection? 8051
- does it handle USB power delivery? Cortex-M0
- does it process IP packets? MIPS
- is it in some sort of video ASIC? 80186

Yeah, seriously, what's up with the 80186? So far, I've encountered them in
- DP to HDMI converters (MCDP2900A)
- DVD Player SoCs (ZR36966)
- Monitor SoCs (STDP9310)

https://www.cpushack.com/2013/01/12/the-intel-80186-gets-turbocharged-vautomation-turbo186/ makes mention of two other video ASICs using an 80186 CPU

I'm reading this article on Winnipeg film and got distracted because this still from Crime Wave looks astoundingly like a screenshot of a point and click adventure

*sees someone asking questions about a 1600A breaker on Reddit*

I feel like if you are within the same zip code as a 1600A breaker you shouldn't need to ask on Reddit....

@35millimetre @neil @fdroidorg Some open source apps that need to be paid on Play Store are available on F-Droid for free.
Can't wait for all the orgs to fire everybody after buying generative AI tools and discovering about glue people the hard way.

Kernighan's Law: Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Write code for the person who has to debug it at 2 AM. It'll likely be you.

@b0rk IIRC Hector Martin (marcan42) had a good explainer back on Twitter, but I've no idea if it's still available anywhere.
tfw a friend talks about "flu-like symptoms in the middle of a heatwave" and you try to convince them to test for covid and they just kinda ignore you 🙃
