I've been going on public middle school tours and I cannot overstate how bleak the situation is with screens in schools. 10yo had covid zoom school kindergarten, and now is heading into all-day screen middle school and beyond. $25k minimum to buy out of it via private school (which we can't / won't do for a variety of reasons). What's happening is way, way worse than I'd imagined.

@scott we have the same here, but resellers show up in the first hours and grab boxes and boxes of the highest quality books; they have barcode scanners and are racing through checking resale prices
@scott yeah folks go first thing and buy up everything decent in a big lot to then resell online. Used to be able to browse and find good stuff, but those days are over
@javier a bunch of swimming / outdoor summer camps, but she's super joyful & outgoing and everyone's her friend right now, so I know she's going to come home happy with ~27 new friends every week; it's just the classic USian childhood in the midst of 😵💫 everything 😵💫
(my life at that age was pretty different, so it's very sweet to see her so happy 🥺)
