Not bad for about an hour of messing around. iPhone, iPad, and Mac versions of Dialog, a personal listen later podcast feed generator that takes any article and outputs it as generated audio. UI needs work but it’s fully functional.
Some personal news. For real. Deep breath… After 12 years at The Wall Street Journal, I’m leaving. Twelve!

I’m starting my own consumer-tech media company, building a new home with the same mission I've always had: help real people navigate the tech changing their lives.

I can’t wait to start building and hiring! If you want to follow along, sign up at the link below and subscribe on YouTube. No holding small microphones. I promise. Probably. https://www.thisismynexthing.com/

Accidental Tech Podcast: 677: I Accept the Battery Cost

Three nerds discussing tech, Apple, programming, and loosely related matters.

@gruber I became an indie app developer today. Here is my first app:

I think you may get a kick out of it. It tells you where in the world it's 5:00 right now and along with some fun facts provides you with a cocktail recipe from that place.

Has anyone else noticed their page views blowing up... with "users" from China? This just started last week.
If Apple still had courage they would've opened the keynote with this. @atpfm
@shayman, you mentioned that it's "not too hard to work around [getting them to work in Canada]” Do you care to give a fellow Canadian a more specific hint on how I can do that?

Not that anyone cares *when* I did this, but I made this 15 days ago.

It doesn’t seem hard to me to do this.

As a person who used to make app icons at Apple, I don’t think the situation is that the designer doesn’t know, but rather the decision maker who is supposed to have taste doesn’t know. (If this person isn’t Alan Dye, then that’s even more embarrassing for him that he’s not the person making that call.)

Also, slightly purpler is better. More Mac, less Mail / Safari like I said before.

@gruber An internet is a type of network. The Internet is an internet but it's also the name of that internet. I guess because it's basically the only internet makes it kind of a moot point. Still, it's not just worthy of being treated as a proper noun, it is one.
