A desperate prayer

Oh God
why have you not forsaken me
when I beneath the starry heavens scream
at you, like Job
despite having lost nothing
which I did not lose myself.

Oh God,
why do those who cling so strongly
to your name
act in a manner
so unlike
all I can perceive you to be

Oh God,
make me your prophet
but first
make me a man
who walks in the nature
of your love.

I will never mourn
for the lost soul
of one
who earnestly seeks
to know God

I will never hold myself in so much hubris
to think that I alone
understand Divine Will.

Looking at the world around me
I see an uncairing and evil cause

Looking within my heart I see
a God of mercy infinite
and joy and peace for all

how can I reconcile these
and the world I have seen

or must I?

no doubt, my child,
the world is sick and evil
and has been for all of time
and I can promise no purpose given to you
but can promise this
we are endowed with such power
as can make it
a better place.

So what do we do to the weak
but punish them because
the powerful we know escape
and our rage needs somewhere to land

and so I fear the immigrant, the faggot, and the tranny
and ask the mighty crooks above
if you’re all crooked, then be crooked for me!

and all I can see
is a zero sum game
and I must pick the enemy I can overcome
and fight with all I have
for I myself am hungry and poor
and I won’t lose this one too
and emerging victorious
I will at least know in some things
with sufficient help
I can overcome.

and hope to add their scraps from the table
to the meager count of my own.
and hope to find a simple peace
where wealth accompanies me
and love finds me
and all my hate
is seen as wisdom
and all my fear
is seen as prudence
and all my evil
is acknowledge
as righteous anger
and I may be redeemed

Sometimes I got on walks
with God
who walks beside me
listening
patiently
while I speak of God's nature
and more often of what is not of God
by which I most often mean
of whom has fallen out of my favor
and therefore
out of the favor
of the God I imagine.

And God listens
patiently
gracefully
not interrupting
not stopping me
not correcting

for I
in all my hubris
have never once
sincerely
truly
asked
for correction

or when I did
promptly ignore
over and over again
the clear visions
presented to me

and God holds my hand
and comforts me

and from this I know
that God is on my side
and that I speak not for myself
but every word
which leaves my lips
is truly divine
and God inspired.

And I am righteous
in my condemnation
of my fellow children
of God

and I can not imagine
that they too walk
as I do
with God beside them
listening
supporting
comforting
as they say the same
of me.
