Thoughtfulness & compassion.

I run the Scenoptica project, where we share footage, tell stories, make documentaries, and share knowledge on ecology, science, and academia (in English and Bahasa Indonesia).

Quickly: he/him, live in #Indonesia (previously Europe/Africa); enjoy #cinema, #reading, #music, #art, and #games; played #hockey; play #drums; interested in #ecology; love #ferns but other #plants are cool too; #creativecommons member; use #linux & #kde; have a dozen rescue #cats.

Needless to say, ICE must be abolished.
Wishing everyone Merry Christmas, a restful holiday, and anything else you wish, courtesy of this lovely image a student drew of us. 🥰

(I do not have the brain to alt-text rn. Basically just a back an forth with the agent wanting me to send an image to prove a delay, me asking how and them not answering)

Imagine thinking a tank parade is a demonstration of power, in 2025, when Ukraine has showed us that they're vulnerable to $100 3D printed drones.
Living art. I found this bark with fungus - cool, huh?

Since they're not here, Lelly and Mia's research on the bear cuscus has finally been published in Oryx: https://doi.org/10.1017/S0030605324001406.

One of the findings is how little of South Sulawesi is suitable for the species (~7.5% of the studied area), and how humans have isolated it. Considering Sulawesi's unique endemism, it's quite a bleak revelation. Bear cuscuses are also unprotected and easily poached, for stomach-churning reasons. Hopefully the paper does enough to change that.

Found a “cotton stainer” bug nymph on the hibiscus this morning. They’re mostly a threat to cotton crops, but they’ll happily take on my hibiscus and okra (and their relatives) in the absence of cotton.

I probably won’t need to worry too much about it as there are plenty of their predators in the garden that will happily snacc-attacc.
