Wikipedia is now on Mastodon, at @wikipedia!
They've taken an interesting approach here, as it is an account run by the community, where everyone can contribute (explanation here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/@Wikipedia). At the same time, it is verified on the official homepage of wikipedia.org, as you can see in the screenshot.
Personally, I think this suits the spirit of the fediverse that the Wikipedia account is not a PR department, but community members building something together!
Just officially quit #twitter. I refuse to participate on a rage-drunk platform that enables conspiracy theories and other right-wing garbage as their revenue model.
One last time I looked at the āFor Youā section⦠the first tweet is the great Elon himself (I never followed him) bitching about the Washington Post followed by a bunch of sycophantic replies from his fanboy cheerleader squad. Nauseatingā¦
So much happier to be here! š
To build on the same point: the same can be said for #aiart, #aimusic, #aiaudio, #aivideo⦠At some point, perhaps very soon, 1% of all content in existence will have been authored by nonhuman intelligence.
And, however long it takes to get to 1%, getting to 2% will be way faster. And to 3%, much faster stillā¦
This is staggering, profound, and unprecedented in history. Batten down the hatches⦠change like weāve never seen before is comingā¦
AIs are currently emitting an unfathomable amount of written text, more and more by the hour. And with the speed and scalability of these systems, Iām willing to bet that if it isnāt already more text than all humanity, combined, produces each hour⦠it will be soon.
I wonder: given the mind-bending clip of advances in AI lately, how long will it be before 1% of the entire corpus of text in the world, all that was ever written, has nonhuman authorship? Maybe already?
The new Leica M11 Monochrom is out: https://leica-camera.com/en-US/photography/cameras/m/m11-monochrom
It looks like a fantastic camera. The sensor specs⦠wow. But, Iām invested in L mount Leica glass, not M mount, and tbh Iāve never actually used a Leica rangefinder. (I know, I know, itās weird! FWIW, I migrated from the Canon DSLR ecosystem to the mirrorless Leica SL2.)
I do love love love my SL2! Maybe someday theyāll do a SL2 (or SL3) Monochromā¦
I have a friend who works in fraud analytics at a tech company doing food delivery. Apparently a missing girl was found the other day because the kidnapperāwho was also involved in a fraud ring!āordered delivery. Because the fraud was detected, a subpoena was served instead of dinner.
Just wondering what kind of idiot a kidnapper has to be to go ahead and order some DoorDash mid-kidnapping⦠with a stolen credit card??? š
And⦠apparently this isnāt even the first this has happened! Yikes.
