All 7 Hells of Beppu, the geyser, and the Attack on Titan museum + the dam looking like the "Wall Maria" in AoT. A busy Day 19!
Finally settled into a quiet guesthouse in a secluded bay to recharge.
A classic travel day driving from Kumamoto to Beppu. We stopped for a hike at Mount Aso, but due to high volcanic activity, the main crater was closed. We still got to explore the surrounding inactive craters, which was impressive.
Once in Beppu, we visited one of the "Seven Hells" and ended the day relaxing in a local onsen.
Day 17: Started with a ride on the Takachiho Amaterasu Railway followed by a visit to the gorge. Later, we explored the moss-covered Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine.
Back in Kumamoto now for another night. A beautiful day in nature.
Today took us from the ocean cliffs at Udo Shrine to the top of Mount Kuratake. After a full day of driving and exploring, we’ve made it to Kumamoto.
Celebrated our arrival with some ramen and now it's time to recharge.
Today was a mix of buses and our new rental car. We explored Aoshima and visited the island shrine, making sure to grab some local mangoes and Yuzu along the way. 🥭🍋
After picking up the car this afternoon, we finally got to taste the fruit at our place tonight... Highly recommended.

Throwback to day 14
Yesterday was all about the journey to Miyazaki. We had a great local breakfast in Ishigaki, hopped on a plane, and took a taxi straight to our new accomodation.
Looking forward to a quiet evening after a successful day of traveling.
Looking back at our last day in Ishigaki. Snorkeling the Blue Cave was incredible... We saw two species of clownfish and so many other tropical fish in the reef 🪸
After taking in the views from a high point on the island in the afternoon, we went out with a guide to see hundreds of fireflies in the forest. A long but rewarding day.

Finally caught up on some sleep before heading to Taketomi Island!
Cycled through the sandy streets of this traditional paradise, then headed back to Ishigaki for some local food and a late-night arcade session.

From neon signs to palm trees.
We made the jump to Ishigaki today! After a very early flight, we’ve already picked up our car and started wandering the island. The air is different here... salty, warm, and full of adventure. This second leg of our trip is off to an incredible start.
