Personal views. On vacation. Director of standards for oasis for a decade, and then its general counsel & CPO. OASIS hosts open source and open standards work in cybersec, AI security, trade, civictech, data protection. Still a for-real lawyer, as well. Alignment lawful-good, in a chaotic-good industry. (Otherwise I might have stayed on Wall Street.) Ex-corporate law partner, ex-Minnesota. LA-based. Still also @jamiexml on x/birdsite, but not routinely.

At the time it was said ... referring to the courthouses… maybe… that "Hell's a very convenient place for judges' and solicitors' homes."

Some very nice pubs, too. Here's Fallon's (see the picture). They claim to pour the best pint of Guinness on tap in Ireland. (!) Obviously, we needed to test this.

This time, thanks to accommodating guides (nephews), we also got to spend a bit more time up in Dublin in the #Liberties (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Liberties,_Dublin), guided round by our literary fam to see some venerable, artsy and edgy sights new to us. Sort of a local Bohemian Quarter these days.

Among other things we spent some time in "Hell," a #Liberties 🇮🇪 Four Corners location. Much nicer nowadays than it sounds. It was named… maybe… for the original locale of the Four Courts including the Republic's Supreme Court (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Courts), before they moved to the prominent domed courthouses just north of the Liffey.

Returning to the US over the weekend. Last couple of EU days are in Ireland. Always happy to be here and see family; another great wedding, this time. We're more often likely to travel for family than random sightseeing. Our sept has three family seats, Wicklow Co., Los Angeles, and Minnesota.

For our daughter's wedding, for example, we put on three ceremonies/parties, one in each place. Not a problem! Three parties are better than one. (Yes, we're very lucky to be able to do so.)

Neil Postman and James Carey legendarily analyzed the impact of the telegraph on society: irrelevance made relevant; instantaneity valued over consideration; regional voices flattened into a national sameness. 24-hour-news accelerated all that, alongside its children, the internet and now AI. 4/

Hey guys I wrote this short story twelve years ago, but oops it came true. It's a dark look at the AI lifestyle, and it hits so many notes.

I would very much appreciate any boosting you might think warranted.

This all started because of two things, I am an engineer, and I wasn’t coping well with my father’s death. He had died about seven years before, but his death kept intruding on my life. I had so …
