I do historical keyboard instruments: performing on, tuning and repairing harpsichords, fortepianos, chamber organs and clavichords. Based in Montreal.
Starting a tour with Les Boréades today! After 500km of driving yesterday (following a 2 hour rehearsal) we're all set up for a show of Transtaïga tonight in Saguenay A rather different setup, with the "organ" (keyboard running through hauptwerk, alas) tucked under the harpsichord.

Some kitchen table surgery today. Trying to improve the transposer on my Hill Italian. It as never designed to transpose, but by taking out the top key and trimming off the side of the keyframe, the keyboard can slide over just enough. When I first set this up though, I cut "just about enough", so it mostly worked, but not quite perfectly. I'm trimming another millimetre or so, to make it (hopefully) perfect.

What

Christmas 2 is well underway! Only a small tree this year, since we've delayed the chopping so long, due to an extended run of Nutcracker shows. The ice and snow from last week's weather will take a while to melt off.

Tomorrow will be Christmas Day for this family!

A little out of my usual domain - I'm getting my parents' upright piano a little more into shape, after a decade or two without tuning. This is interesting for a change, but I'm glad I mostly stick to historical instruments!

Last Messiah of 2025! With Ensemble Caprice, in Longueuil, Quebec.

A bit of quick tuning at McGill at the start of another long 12+ hour day.

On a pilgrimage to my next rehearsal.
Finally had a chance to ride the #rem!

Messiah #2 today, with a side of Bach - 1st cantata of Christmas Oratorio.
