There was a second swarm of bots scrapping Git again, another identifier and more sent to the iocaine tarpid feeding them gibberish :D
Current stats:
bad actors (total): 29395
junk served (total): 72410725 bytes (69.06 MB)
That's 69 (niceee) MBs of pure text fed, so not too shabby!
The saga with Git scrapers is really interesting, opted out from the big corpo ones via robots.txt and Caddy rules, they did respect it and https://git.inthemansion.com was fine.
Couple of days ago, I started getting swarms of unique IPs that look like residential and giving proper UA, almost indistinguishable from the real traffic.
After hours of exploring, found the mistakes they made and routed all of the scrapers to the iocaine tarpit, poisoning their data.
Been less than a week, and MansionNET Git (https://git.inthemansion.com) already has 24 users and some very nice repos!
Can't wait to see more code being uploaded and mirrored, so far it's such a fun project to grow and maintain!
MansionNET IRC network approaching almost 100 users in the #lobby channel :)
With more than 100 overall users now, we just need around 80ish more to overtake Bondage International IRC network and enter the top 100 networks on https://netsplit.de 😆
Let's see if we can do it!
It's very entertaining seeing bots hitting robots.txt and being declined, I'm assuming the scraping is being nicely repelled so far from the MansionNET git :)
https://git.inthemansion.com already have 12 users and quite a bit of code flowing in! So far, it’s been stable and running pretty snappily:)
The registration is open to anyone!
Hope to see you there :)
MansionNET is now running its own Git!
@forgejo self-hosted, at https://git.inthemansion.com
No tracking, no AI scraping, no corporate gatekeeper. The code that powers our IRC bots, web tools, and infrastructure now lives where the rest of MansionNET lives, on hardware we control :)
Registration is open. Public repos, private repos, mirrors back to GitHub for visibility, really your call.
Looking forward to any feedback as well! :)
About to expand the MansionNET services for the community by hosting a Git based on Forgejo :)
Looking forward to fist setting it up and then checking out all the projects that will be hosted there!
MansionNET infra milestone tonight: every web service on *.inthemansion.com
now does hybrid post-quantum key exchange (X25519MLKEM768) for TLS 1.3
handshakes.
Won't stop a quantum computer that doesn't exist yet, but it does make
"record now, decrypt in 2040" a much worse bet for anyone trying 😉
