my husband made it so the home assistant voice assistant can use full-on ollama to interpret instructions. then he told it to turn the lights on. it's been explaining its thought process for over five minutes now and the lights are still off.

I use TRAI dnd app for reporting spam calls. It works fine for everyone except for calls from HDFC. HDFC uses numbers from BSNL. I complain, bsnl responds the call was not promotional even though it was and the complaint is closed. I can appeal but it's a hassle. :/

> Hi, we could not action your regarding unsolicited commercial communication on your Airtel number because the defaulting telemarketer belongs to BSNL and response received from the concerned operator is Not Promotional In Nature

๐Ÿคฏ Instagram is testing new iOS push notifications that include a profile photo. Each time the notification is shown on your screen, it triggers a GET request to fetch that image, letting Meta track every on-screen impression.

The app still misuses push notifications to send detailed device analytics about the device (uptime, battery, volume, locale, timezone, memory, CPU, etc.)

Try to remove lynx & links & links2 and it tries to install w3m ALSO A TUI BROWSER

What ???

edit: luckily, there are only 4 TUI browsers so removing lynx & links & links2 & w3m solves the problem. An alternative would've to update mimeopen configs

I am on debian 11 and it ships `lynx` terminal web browser. This interferes with tools that try to open a webpage with xdg-open. The site will not load in the terminal and because of the browser, I can't see the link!

So I tried uninstalling it. Try to remove lynx and it tries to install links(also a tui web browser). Try to remove lynx and links and it tries to install links2...

I am setting up chromium repository on the new machine from work. Cloning took 45 minutes and now it's running rev-list. It's running for 5 hours and processing each file takes seconds. There are thousands of files and it's going to take forever. I don't know if this is something weird with git on mac? It has never taken this long
MacOS animated wallpaper/screen saver is a video and it reads the video from disk everytime. In 1 day, I am at 60GiB read. Doesn't it make more sense to read it into memory than keep the disk awake and read the video from there for playback ?

I sometimes see videos like this where the narrator says, this was really popular until 19xx and I was using it regularly until 2011-12 because there were a LOT of powercuts and not enough battery backup.

Before you continue to YouTube

MacOS saves and restores conntrack table after sleep/hibernation operations(even when your laptop lost all power) so when you start it back up and as long as the router did not flush the connection you can keep reusing the same old connection so SSH sessions do not die! This is super nice

I don't know what windows does in this situation. Linux afaik does not have a reliable hibernation mechanism, systemd suspend sometimes works some times does not and I don't know what it does with conntrack

HDR image and video rendering in iOS apps(like reddit) and Chromium on macos is a bit weird. Partially visible image is rendered without HDR and the moment the whole image is in viewport, the local brightness around the image shoots up giving a slightly annoying effect. I don't know how this should be done
