@decay and that's not even mentioning a simple fact that programming with AI *costs money*. Writing code in an editor is free.

Ivan's explainer of why you should bother and go to protest rallies.

1. If people living under an authoritarian regime do nothing, it solidifies, and a few years later you (or your family member) find yourself in a war with some state or another. Or in a famine. Or in a genocide.

2. Coming out on a peaceful protest is a way to avoid item 1 without violence. But for it to work, the numbers must be overwhelming. It may take several times.

So come out to get counted. It's not hard.

Big shout out to Tusky, ActivityPub, et al for being well-made and letting me browse cat pictures and other vital entertainment while _in the middle of $/#@ rural nowhere on the train home.

The cows are impressed.

@Retrograde there's already a similar effort https://codeberg.org/NerdNextDoor/evi

EVi, a hard-fork of Vim v9.1.0 (Jan 2024) before AI was used in the project.

@elilla "Signal-shaped noise" is an utterly brilliant characterization of what "gen AI" produces.
Finally finished watching Critical Role campaign 3. I'm free now!
@wwahammy can't say. What I mean there's a simple technical way to coerce distros rather than a complicated legal one.
@wwahammy none of this is going to happen, not likely. Currently main Linux distros are graciously allowed to boot by Microsoft letting them use Microsoft-signed binary for the Secure Boot process. California AG could just facilitate uhm "cease of continuation" of this practice.
