Welp, my journey had an abrupt end: the refurbed mi mix turned out to be faulty. While I am in the process of returning, I am rethinking my rushed decision to give up on the mi 11T I have, that works. I instead will do more research to have a proper #degoogled phone when the one I have no longer works. #reduce, #REUSE, #recycle

On a journey to move away from big Tech, support local business and live a more sustainable lifestyle. I love tech, science, globalism, politics, videogames and coffee.
You know what's a great sideeffect of a downgraded phone? I don't need to use a dumb phone like a lot of people who want to #detox digitally. Get a older phone that works just good enough but doesn't have all the new features and it will feel like a slightly smarter dumb phone: D
But I could never get over how much I loved that Mi Mix 3. So in 2025 I bought a #refurbished 5G model, since in the meantime they released a global version (I'm european). It is outdated since 2022. Android 10. No passkeys, certain apps don't work as well, but surprisingly miui is better? Those features I missed from android 14; turns out I don't need them. #Degoogle d as much as I possibly could without rooting. I wanted to put #lineageos but failed to unlock it but I'll try again. 5/5
Better battery, crisp 90Hz screen, yea, cool, whatever. Android support for more than 4 years, what, why isn't that the norm? I started noticing that its worth way more to buy a flagship in 2018 and then stick with it until you replaced the screen and battery twice and you at that point know where every screw goes without #ifixit guides. And then you get another flagship, but only because they last forever, thats why they (ideally) cost more. 4/5
Oh how that "pro" in name made me feel so much better. So much closer to all those tech reviewers that have all the new stuff. Me not thinking about sustainability, budgeting or if I even needed it. And in the 4 years using it, it just didn't feel that great, like a real upgrade. I told myself I would use this phone until it didn't work. Reduce, reuse. And every year I see more tech, bigger steps of progress, better products and I got numb to it. Folding phone, great, I want it, 1800€? F no. 3/5
I loved the slide mechanism of the Mi Mix 3. So much. The reasons I gave it up added up every year of use: poor battery life, miui was buggy, xiaomi bloat you cant uninstall but it slows your phone, miuis persistant changing notification settings by itself, and the last drop was when my provider offered free 5G upgraded to my Contract but I couldn't use. Back then I was chasing technology like crazy even tho I couldn't afford it so I went out and bought a Mi 11T Pro. 2/5
I'll start a thread about my experience #downgrading my #smartphone and my conclusions. 2021 I switched from my #Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 to a Xiaomi Mi 11T Pro mainly because I wanted to make use of #5G which was offered by my Provider. The Mi Mix 3 has a 5G model which was China exclusive back then, so I "upgraded". From a 2019 Flagship to a 2021 Midrange Phone. 1/5 #reusereducerecycle
