I'm on a roll these past couple of weeks with writing. Here's some thoughts on cooking and being organised: https://interroban.gg/post/everything-in-its-place

I like to be organised.

I wrote this, I promise there’s a point to it: https://thoughtbot.com/blog/chicken-accessories-for-chickens

JSX: yes
TypeScript: sure
CommonJS & ESM: no problem
Decorators: yeehaw
Web Components: how dare you, this is too much tooling overhead and complexity

Nobody wakes up in the morning thinking, ‘I want some software.’

I really enjoyed this post by Jane:

Luke Mitchell | Nobody wants to use any software

Jane writes about how software isn't the solution to problems that we think it is.

🏝️ Did a little refresh of my @eleventy site over the weekend. Cleaned up some code and threw in a quick redesign with a manual theme mode switcher. Still some more clean up to do on design and code, but really happy to build an 11ty site without using an existing template and creating a tropical theme for myself and shaving almost 10s off my build time in under two days. https://samkapila.com/

@andy 's post is an excellent guide and list of resources, it’s also one of the best summaries of why you should at least understand how the things you build for work, and some very good reasons to learn to code as a designer, it’s an ancient argument but in 2024 it might just make you stand out enough when some of our work can be spat out in 30 seconds by AI.

The time for designers to learn to code is now

With design tools further commoditising and sanitising expected creative output, the time for designers to be able to stand out is very much here. I think for some, learning to code is a good route for that.
