@CStamp What? You mean to say that metastatic capitalism actually has limits? Never!

@openmastering @the_grue 4K would depend on the age of the PC, or would need RPi4 or 5. Best check on forums for that.

The RF remote and dongle is a convenient way of controlling Kodi. I found one online (AliExp most likely) that looks like a normal remote on the front and has a mini keyboard on the back. This is what I have: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/3353124/Rii-Mx3.html#manual

@the_grue @openmastering Yep, that's a good way to keep control of what's on the telly. An RF remote control makes it quite convenient, and uses a USB dongle for the Kodi host. I've used a Raspberry Pi but they can be underpowered. Mini PCs from corporate/government computer refurb companies work well too—HP, Dell, Lenovo and Acer make them.

Plugging a laptop in and streaming off it works pretty well too.

@randahl "Made in" is enough for me to boycott.
All of DOGE’s work could be undone as lawsuit against Musk proceeds
Musk’s X posts bragging about DOGE may trigger reversals of its biggest wins.

@openmastering Any TV is a dumb TV if you don't connect it to the net. My main advice is to go to a shop and try the interfaces to see what works best for you. The best picture in the world won't compensate for a UI that you hate or a remote control that hurts your hand.
@decryption I'm surprised that there isn't a surcharge for 13-18 year olds.

I missed this last week.

The man the AFR experts thinks is “Australia’s newest datacenter titan” has never built a datacenter.

He lost $24 million in 2024. He has an MOU from Microsoft that says they’ll give him $2.5 billion if he turns up a datacenter in Laughton, UK, by the end of this year. That’s on the site he doesn’t actually own, which is currently running as a scaffolding yard (The Guardian broke that story)

On the strength of his $24 million loss and that MOU, Macquarie Bank has loaned him $105 million.

Last year Kier Starmer trumpeted his company as “British sovereign AI.” He has no AI, no British employees, and was based in Australia at the time. He’s built precisely nothing whatsoever since Starmer’s endorsement.

AFR wrote this article AFTER ALL THAT INFORMATION WAS MADE PUBLIC. “Datacenter titan,” no datacenters, losing money hand over fist, originating from Bitcoin grift.

Gud jernalisms!

A320 COCKPIT PRINTER - AviationHunt

The Airbus A320 printer prints reports from the following systems (if installed) : ACARS, AIDS, FMGC, CFDIU and EVMU. It prints these on paper, and does so

@neonsnake Yes, you can run Whisper locally. I use pinokio to run it, and it's pretty much point and click. I think it runs on CPU alone, but Nvidia GPU makes it faster.
