I am the man in the lighthouse for my org. Full #DFIR owner - IR, TH, TI, FOR. Alerting. Vuln mgmt. Threat mgmt. Brush up against policy. Teaching governance that Availability is part of security. Finally got my Masters. Sho'nuff. Living that Wisconsin life.

The nightmare of cold call sales people.

Good for the gander, good for the goose.

Every time I hear someone preach the lie you can have it all, I want to smash their jaws and thumbs to powder with a heavy hammer.
If I had the power to implement one change in educational curriculum at a collegiate or high school level it would be an introduction to the real world class, and that class would have a foundational chapter on prioritization. You don’t get to have everything, so you need to prioritize what’s important, and know the further down the priority list you go the exponentially higher odds you don’t get that thing.

I believe in the power of long term business relationships.

However -

When a reputable competitor just as good offers a comparable product and service for 1/3 the cost, you’ve taken advantage of the relationship.

Keep stacking that uplift. Short term gains right into long term loss. Munger rule at play.

This is important for any couple or family unit that does not conform to standard marriage norms.

If you thought “common law” relationships are a thing, they are not, only 1 county in the US recognizes common law relationships.

So if your in a committed relationship and not in a marriage between a man and a woman, you need this too!

Drop into any conversation online about securing your cryptocurrency and you will find a great number of people who clearly need help and an almost equal number of people who talk down their noses at people who don't have a clue (and who in their minds maybe even deserve to get robbed).

The truth is, securing your cryptocurrency against theft is not a simple matter, requires a fair bit of preparation and foreknowledge. and is remarkably easy to fuck up, with unseen, massive consequences either immediately or down the road.

My theory is that anyone who has been in the cryptocurrency space for any length of time has been through one or more experiences where they lost some or all of their coin to some scam, rug-pull, phishing scheme or outright physical theft. That's a really expensive way to learn about security, but it has its adherents.

Here's the core truth about owning a lot of cryptocurrency wealth; it makes YOU the bank. The minute anyone knows or suspects you have sizeable amounts of crypto holdings, you become a walking target for phishers, sim-swatters, kidnappers and extortionists, or worse. And ultimately, what gets stolen stays that way, and it is rare that victims ever seen their stolen coin again.

Here’s how this works: Republicans change the rules and allow people to invest their retirement in crypto. The guys at the top make billions. The retirees get wiped out in the serial crashes. The working age adults paying taxes now, and their children, pay for the bailouts that give retirees a portion of their money back after they gambled it away. The billionaires are still billionaires, and continue to not pay for any of it.
