@bstn I do wonder about potential negative connotations of 'herd', 'packs', and other fauna-based terms. 'Herd mentality', for example, is not something we seek to encourage. It's also possible (not promised) that in the future these collections might allow for other objects such as hashtags.
Knowing this, what other potential names come to mind for you?
@bstn I love seeing this creative energy firing across the Mastodon community.
'Packs' as a placeholder was originally synonymous with "collections" or "kits" – i.e. words about objects. Your comment and similar ones have revealed that the first interpretation for many people is to associate "packs" with animals, not objects. Makes so much sense!
@pa27 That sounds frustrating, but it should be temporary! You're seeing that message because only posts published *after* the feature launch are set to be quotable by default. We did this to preserve author privacy.
Authors can make any of their previous (public or quiet public) posts quotable by navigating to "Change who can quote" within the post actions menu.
If you have further feedback, feel free to direct to the email address at the end of the blog post.

Excited to see quote posts go live on mastodon.social today! I'm very proud of the team's efforts to make this a feature that expands meaningful conversations while preserving author controls.
More details about this launch can be found in the post below and in the related threads.
