Why we call it booting
when trump told a room full of 800 of his generals that he wanted to use american cities as training grounds for the military, everyone was like "he can't do that, it's against the law", but i haven't seen anyone ask - training for what? what objective looks like american cities?
the thought occurs that trump's reciprocal tariffs may be designed to convince nations to drop all their tariffs and give america the opportunity to use anti-competitive measures to kill those nations local industries and make them dependent on the US to extract wealth from them
only caring about your own rights is
exactly how you lose them

no one would think twice about a family of 12 spending more at the grocery store than a family of 4

so why is a country of 300M getting butt-hurt that it spends more on cross-border trade than a country of 40M?

A Canadian friend's perspective on US behavior since the Trump regime was installed:

---cut here---

One thing I've learned over the past few weeks, and it's been a bit of a sobering lesson, is that a lot of Americans I know don't actually know what's going on between the US and Canada right now, and just how seriously Canadians are taking this. So, against my better judgement, here's a timeline to explain why we're here, and why we're angry.

Nov 30th, 2018 - The United States, Canada and Mexico finalize a trade agreement. Trump personally negotiates the terms and signs the document, celebrating it as 'the greatest trade agreement in history". (This is important.)

Nov 29th, 2024 - In a face to face meeting, Trump threatens the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, that he will be imposing 25% tariffs and that if Canada wants to avoid that, it should join the US as a state.

Nov 30th, 2024 - Trump publicly calls our Prime Minister 'Governor Trudeau' and instructs his staff to only address him as Governor going forward. He again suggests Canada should join the USA.
Dec 3rd, 2024 - Trump remarks that he would split Canada into two states once annexed.

some people want to blame trump voters for the misfortunes they're suffering under trump. remember that trump is an inveterate con-man, one of the best their is. many of the people who voted for him were conned. they're his victims
when trump painted canada as the bad guy, there was a reason. people in power sow division between groups and frame one as an "other" so that they'll fight among themselves and be distracted and not notice what else the people in power are doing. don't take your eyes off them
