Currently taking #OpenStreetMap off-the-grid with #internetinabox

Involved with @sandstorm. A really cool project for easy #selfhosting, though I'd caution using it for sensitive things at the moment because it's badly out of date, but we're working on it!

Imagine if health bloggers started warning about "chemicals" in energy drinks (surely you've heard something like this), and touting "chemical-free" alternatives.

This enters the wider lexicon. Serious journalists discuss the controversy of energy drinks that are "full of chemicals".

No drink manufacturers or even chemists raise a stink or mock anyone for butchering the word. Within ten years they all use the word this way themselves.

This is what happened to the word "algorithm".

Wait Luma is kind of this way isn't it. You just can't follow individuals I think.
My least favorite thing about #OpenStreetMap is how communicative fellow editors ain't.
How often does a YouTuber ask their audience "should I do more of X" and the answers come back "nah"? It feels like they're just fishing for compliments.
We've all heard of "therapy speak" but can we talk about "album review speak"? Where they try to describe music? Yuck.
Meetup.com but every user is their own meetup and you just post stuff you're going to go do and you see if anyone is interested in joining.
In a conversation recently we brought up that old cafe WiFi system where they give you a code with your purchase that expires after a period of time. We both agreed that we should bring that back! It was kind of annoying, but you know exactly how welcome you are to stick around.
Trying to distill the current definition of "based" I think it comes down to "cool in a way that upsets uncool people"

What if your halfway-through new prediction comes true?

You have to have a strict rule on how to evaluate predictions or else it's meaningless. But nobody had the focus for that sort of thing. It's hard not to give credit for any sort of prediction.

The only thing that makes sense is betting I guess. Even if it's play money. If you end up on top given all your changes of opinion then your predictions are good.
