↬ 7posts/7days to explore the world of progressive music beyond "strict" prog-rock

❼ Tally Hall - Good Day (2005)

✨ “Fabloo”. The tag may have slipped by; the sound shouldn’t. Modern progressive pop merging stop'n'gos, Queen theatricals and nerdy punk immediacy. A tiny but real micro-scene!

❻ The Chameleons - Second Skin (1983)

✨ It's not just the cover: "Script of the Bridge" builds progressive architectures in plain sight — evolving, enveloping atmospheres, as much prog in scope as darkwave in mood.

❺ dredg - Scissor Lock (2005)

✨ In the so-called "atmospheric rock" field the progressive and alt-rock realms almost touch, and dredg are among the most solid bridges. Such an enthralling refrain!

❹ Brand New - Limousine (MS Rebridge) (2006)

✨ Before “post-emo” even had a name, its forefathers were at it: an 8-minute epic where power chords meet Radiohead’s harmonic extensions. That 2:20 “curtain” moment still stops time.

❸ Rubik - Radiant (2009)

✨ A progressive take on indie-pop, with ever-shifting meters, puzzling lyrics, and a mood so bright that it turns into melancholy. Can you count the rhythm?

❷ Deltron 3030 - 3030 (2000)

✨ Hip hop: prog's opposite? Hardly—it’s full of prog samples. Even without one here, the grandeur of W. Sheller’s “Introit” won't miss clicking with fans of wide-screen sci-fi dystopias.

❶ Bill Nelson - Glow World (1983)

✨ Be-bop Deluxe's Bill Nelson with Yukihiro Takahasi from Yellow Magic Orchestra... And (possibly) the most amazing performance ever by Mick Karnon fretless bass!

🪨 Ondarock's "Milestones" are the webzine's longest-running column and the space where it has most clearly tried to map out its own pop music fundamentals.
🌈 Now MARILLION have their place among the greats!

PS. It's always fun when you get this IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION that there is this very interesting article that you really can't miss... And the article was actually authored by you 🙃

Yesterday’s lab was all knobs, guesses and cross-wire connections. 🔀

We started by trying to place a few tracks in time — from Wendy Carlos and Tangerine Dream to The Who and M83 — then dove into synthesis with Korg Littlebits and an Arturia Minibrute. 🎹

By the end, the expression “analogue monophonic modular subtractive synthesiser” had a bit more meaning: hands on the sliders, we traced how oscillators, filters and envelopes shape the physics of sound. 🔊

(No presets were harmed) 😇
