Turning myself and my friends into strange and interesting creatures.

(she/her)

A researcher invented a fake eye condition called bixonimania, uploaded two obviously fraudulent papers about it to an academic server, and watched major AI systems present it as real medicine within weeks.

The fake papers thanked Starfleet Academy, cited funding from the Professor Sideshow Bob Foundation and the University of Fellowship of the Ring, and stated mid-paper that the entire thing was made up. Google's Gemini told users it was caused by blue light. Perplexity cited its prevalence at one in 90,000 people.

ChatGPT advised users whether their symptoms matched. The fake research was then cited in a peer-reviewed journal that only retracted it after Nature contacted the publisher.

Scientists invented a fake disease. AI told people it was real

Bixonimania doesn’t exist except in a clutch of obviously bogus academic papers. So why did AI chatbots warn people about this fictional illness?

🇬🇧 A new comet is visible with the naked eye !
C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS) is an Oort cloud comet which will reach perihelion (the closest distance) on the 19th, before going away forever.

This morning, I loaded my backpack and set up to capture it. I wanted to see it rise next to the Bietschhorn (3 934). The comet is currently in the Pegasus constellation, just below 51 Pegasi, the first star known to host an exoplanet.

If you have clear skies, you should definitely try to see it : It is bright, and will pass only once! It already shows a very long tail, more than 10° long.
The image was taken with a 120-300 lens, set at 180mm. It is an ethical composite: I first captured the foreground with the tracking off (5 x 15s) and then turned the tracking on when the comet reached the desired position (120 x 15s).

Is it possible that Microsoft Windows is not a very good computer program
This comment sums up why I’m so tired of programming in 2026 pretty well

every night before bed my granny used to tell me:

export function matchesNegativeKeyword(input: string): boolean {
const lowerInput = input.toLowerCase()

const negativePattern =
/\b(wtf|wth|ffs|omfg|shit(ty|tiest)?|dumbass|horrible|awful|piss(ed|ing)? off|piece of (shit|crap|junk)|what the (fuck|hell)|fucking? (broken|useless|terrible|awful|horrible)|fuck you|screw (this|you)|so frustrating|this sucks|damn it)\b/

still remember it and cry

After having read through some of the Claude leaks I have come to the conclusion that "AI coding" is an elaborate make-work program for computer programmers cause any of us who have not given ourselves AI psychosis will have job security for the next century fixing everything it's breaking

reminder that anthropic ran (and is still running) an ENTIRE AD CAMPAIGN around "Claude code is written with claude code" and after the source was leaked that has got to be the funniest self-own in the history of advertising because OH BOY IT SHOWS.

it's hard to get across in microblogging format just how big of a dumpster fire this thing is, because what it "looks like" is "everything is done a dozen times in a dozen different ways, and everything is just sort of jammed in anywhere. to the degree there is any kind of coherent structure like 'tools' and 'agents' and whatnot, it's entirely undercut by how the entire rest of the code might have written in some special condition that completely changes how any such thing might work." I have read a lot of unrefined, straight from the LLM code, and Claude code is a masterclass in exactly what you get when you do that - an incomprehensible mess.

About trans rights:

They're a wedge issue. If you think it's okay to deprive trans people of the right to exist in the public sphere then you're saying human rights are conditional and/or can be withdrawn. Which puts you on a slippery slope to no human rights for anyone.

When you trace the roots of the modern anti-trans movement they boil down to some combination of bigotry and billionaire bullshit— the oligarchs think rights are for the rich.

So: trans-rights are human rights. No exceptions.

https://fxbsky.app/profile/jay.bsky.team/post/3micpg7z2h22g I think it was @mcc who was talking about bsky and LLM usage a bit ago. I have some bad news. :/

we also dislike AI slop. this is why we’re using AI to generate code, not content. feel free to block @attie.ai though — it’s a separate app so you don’t have to use it

Today's AI rage bait at work:

Teams are using "Claude Skills" workflows to automate tasks that would have been five minutes of Python any time in the past. Now, instead of typing a command or clicking a button, you can ASK CLAUDE to run a predictable, repeatable, deterministic task for you! HOW EFFICIENT!
