The collapse of Twitter for (basically) self-inflicted reasons makes a strong case for building online infrastructure structured as a non-profit or public utility.
People rely on these platforms for public information, use them for democratic debate and many invest their livelihoods in them.
These platforms are too important to public safety, peoples’ livelihoods and democracy to leave in the hands of eccentric billionaires or the whims of stock markets.

Part 2 continues on my new account, in this thread:

I look forward to continuing this farce on a fresh new Fediverse account. :)
I've learned a lot of Hideous Nonsense during the two decades I've run online communities, and I started posting that nonsense over on this thread on my old account: https://mastodon.social/@ifixcoinops/105778289798706182 This thread continues right here, as soon as either I think of something else to add, or some new server admin does something foolish that I can point and cackle at.
This account is dead! New account at @ifixcoinops!
I'm not gonna use the account migration thing, because I don't wanna lose access to my posts; a few of them are Massive Threads In Progress.
@[email protected] Oh yeah, I mulled that over a couple of years ago. Cool idea, I think at the time I didn't end up downloading it because it wouldn't work with protonmail or something. Cheers for putting it in my brain again, I'll let it rattle around a bit.
(also I heard you can use it with any nah just kidding)
