I don't think this is a bad take necessarily, but I wonder about an alternative take: what if accounts on mastodon.social were routinely retired after a certain period of time to encourage users to migrate to smaller instances? i don't think it's an accident that people are seeking out a kind of 'default' experience when they first sign on. they don't know what they want and they think there's something to learn from the biggest, oldest instance (thing I assume about this instance, I cbw)
