If y’all are here because of this week’s Twitter Armageddon, I got one thing to say to yous.
I don't post on this app much, but I wanted to share: whilst currently on a twitter hiatus. This is an extraordinary interview of Jacinda Ardern after her final day in politics. Some remarkable things about leadership that she's still able to teach everyone, including seeing the best in every experience. See the full interview here: https://youtu.be/Kz2m7O3tfWo
What Jacinda Ardern thinks of her time as Prime Minister

@JessGifkins For reference, this is what the plaques perhaps looked like in the earlier days
Saw this tree (spotted by @JessGifkins) in Sheffield that reminded us of why we chose to become academics. Sometimes what you become almost entirely obscures the way you envisaged it as a small tree. As academics, many of us let the job take over our identities and dreams, in our pursuit of excellence and recognition. Our identities and values may remain buried deep underneath those achievements.
The train to Mastodon reminds me of this type of scenes from where I grew up 🇱🇰 . It's a bit uncomfortable initially but everyone is happy to be on their way to a better place 😂

It was only a matter of time before #AcademicTwitter & #ResearchGate descended with its academic private clubs onto the elephant site. How snobby does one need to be in order to start excluding unpublished scientists from Fediscience (which presumably stands for "Federated Science"?) on the basis of wanting a repercussion-free space to discuss ideas.   🤡 🤪 . Sadly, this is the very definition of #exclusion! #FuckedUpLogic

Anybody ever wondered whether there is a connection between the COP summits being held in cushy resorts like Sharm El-Sheikh and the continued heel dragging? Why not have it somewhere they will see and feel the direct impact of the #climatecrisis?    🤨

Like many of you, I am glad to have landed on this platform AND I am sad abt what’s happening to Twitter. The optimist in me thinks that years from now, many of us here would look back at our Mastodon accounts and think of this #Twittermirgration as our brief refuge before storming back and reclaiming the bird app.

It may not pan out that way. Many of you may not even want it to be that way - but that’s ok too.

I’m holding on to home and making the most of now. Here.

Saw this really good meme and went to quote tweet it. Then I realised that it was LinkedIn 🙊

‘Tis the festive season of new faculty recruitments in many unis. It's a great reminder that women in academia, especially women belonging to intersectional minorities, still have it tough. What are you   going to do to dismantle the barriers standing in our way? See what my colleagues (soon joining Mastodon) & I have to say. #academicmastodon
