ICE in the USA is using a company called Flock to create mass surveillance cameras and information from the internet in order to find people and they are also occasionally using it to stock people for personal reasons. This should be illegal to have that much information. @DemocracyMattersALot @conservativeforever_v3 @LiberalWombat @BBCNews @FoxNews @groundnews @mayormamdani @Trump @techlore @signalapp @protonprivacy @privacytools @theprivacydad @anonymous @repmoulton @RepDonBeyer @randpaul

While I use gOS and have a high respect for their technical skills and exemplary ethics and recognize the very real need for it, and the great work they’ve done upstreaming security for the greater android community, but my god there’s a lot of drama associated, both internally and externally. They would be far better served with a calm and professional press presence. I have their mastodon feed in my RSS and at least monthly there’s a flood of rant and screed about some press coverage or someone using their (GPL I think) stuff. Generally speaking they have a valid point in there, but the tone is off, a bit of taking the piss (humour) would go a long way.

Sometimes I fear they will implode and we’ll lose this oh so necessary project.

Using Ubuntu Touch on a Pixel 3A Phone

Welcome to The Privacy Dad's Blog!
I need to print photos of my family but I don't want it to stay on another company's servers like Snapchat, Vistaprint or staples. Any ideas for privacy friendly photo printing without buying a machine and doing it myself? I'd be willing to have it ship internationally if needed. We could continue supporting future Pixels such as the Pixel 11 and Pixel 12 after we have another option available but we won't depend on them continuing to provide alternate OS support. It's good that the Pixel 10 still provides it since our alternative is a year or two away.

Google asks what we think of their plans to block Android app installs outside of Google Play (unless the developers let Google verify their identity and pay a fee).

Many theories point to this being about control. Your device, their rules. This is why we need truly open alternatives more than ever...

For our community: Start exploring alternatives now. This is tied to Google Play Services. Look into custom operating systems, F-Droid, and other ways to maintain control over your devices. Don't wait until these restrictions are fully in place. Graphene, Calyx, Lineage.

Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next year

Google says it's no different than checking IDs at the airport.

Ars Technica

🚨 Google is tightening the screws on Android freedom! Starting next year, they're blocking sideloading of "unverified" apps which requires all developers to identify themselves to Google. Goal is global 2027 rollout.

What does this mean for users with devices that have Google Play Services?
- F-Droid apps could be harder to install
- Custom APKs might be blocked
- Google gets even more control over what you can run on YOUR device

Android is looking more like iOS every day...

Tijd is nu kritisch. Overheden beslissen tegen 12 september; de stemming is op 14 oktober.
