#Windows12 is supposed to be launching this year. Is it too soon to say #Windows11 was a bit of a mistake?

Hard to overstate just how damaging and self-defeating this is in terms of PR. On so many levels.

The nuances don't matter. All the fence-sitting public is going to take from it is:
1. Yet another call to violence at trans rights protest (with implication it was tolerated)
2. Individual who did it is convicted attempted murderer serving life sentence
3. Campaigners defend them

Couldn't have been better scripted for use as propaganda by anti-trans campaigners, right-wing press and politicians.

This is a really big deal: #LibsOfTikTok rocked up on #Threads posting blatant transphobia to test the limits, got reported, and the stuff is being taken down within hours. Twitter never did this [under Musk].
…Aaand, wham—they've locked down the web UI. All profile URLs now show this. Possibly a deliberate teaser before tomorrow? #Threads

Judging by the calibre of the big names they've persuaded to get on board, a promising start. (I know, I know, so did Fyre Festival, but they didn't have a product yet.) This alone could bring large numbers of fans and fan accounts across. #Threads
Hashtags do not appear to do anything here. Or at least, they're not linked. #Threads
Boom! It has quote posts. Big potential sticking point avoided. #Threads
Confirmation that ActivityPub support is coming (and a seemingly sincere endorsement of the protocol) from the boss: #Threads
Interesting—usernames have a Fediverse domain suffix, which, when clicked, open this message right there in the UI—so they're advertising their federation intent front and centre: #Threads
