Soldier of Fortune since 1979.
Since the #BCM4360 in my 2013 #MacBookAir is not supported in #OpenBSD or #FreeBSD but is mounted in a slot and can therefore be removed, I wonder if anyone more knowledgeable than me can tell we whether it's possible to exchange it for an #Atheros based card for example. Since there are only two USB ports on the machine, I'd hate to block one for Wi-Fi. Also, the #Realtek one I got works but mysteriously maxes out at 1 MB/s throughput.
I’d been hearing about the coal-mine protests in Germany, but this photo by Sean Gallup is the first that gave me a real sense of the titanic size of the thing and what’s being protested. Just… unreal.
If the rumours that #Apple is testing a #touchscreen #MacBook are correct, the only thing they'd confirm is a long-held suspicion of mine: that without a visionary leader, Apple is running out of feasible product ideas. #TimCook is one of the best COOs in the world, but a product person he is not.
@BastilleBSD Is there a way I have somehow overlooked to disable the autostart of a Bastille jail? Not destroying it but only start it when invoked manually.
I just want to thank whoever recommended #doas to me (I forgot), as a #sudo replacement. It is so much cleaner, simpler and sane, originating (unsurprisingly) from #OpenBSD. What's more, there's a port that works on #FreeBSD, #Linux, #NetBSD and #illumos. https://github.com/slicer69/doas

We live in dangerously bizarre times, to say the least: How #Egirl #influencers are trying to get #GenZ into the #military. I honestly had to look up a couple of the terms used in this article. I’m old.

#Andor is the best freaking #StarWars I have seen in decades. Precisely because it doesn’t follow the predictable, boring narrative the franchise has become. And not one single mention of #TheForce in 8 hours. Outstanding.
I'm mildly amused by the amount of attention #Neovim commands lately. There appears to be an influx of #VSCode users who want to level up their "cool" without learning the Vim basics first. Neovim is #Vim. Hard truth: if you don't commit to learning the basics, expecting a running start, you're going to attempt bending it into something it's not. Eventually, you likely quit in frustration. Make no mistake, the learning curve is huge. It's a permanent, worthwhile investment, not a quick switch.
Alright, a question to the experienced #Linux desktop users out there. I love #Sway but I need color management. #GNOME appears to be the only sane choice for this. I've narrowed down my choice of distribution to #Manjaro and #Fedora. Which would you recommend to try in depth and why?
After my recent adventure diving into #Desktop #Linux, I have now found the final nail in the coffin: color management. #Wayland (the "modern" compositor that's supposed to replace #X11, which is #EOL) does not have any color management at all. Like, none. Wow. That's par for the course for desktop use. It's now even clearer to me that Linux will never, ever be a serious desktop environment for anyone but those for whom tinkering is the whole point. What a shame. #Sway is really cool.
