Los Angeles is facing so many challenges these days. Trying to learn about the past, make sense of the present, and look to the future.
Last year the California legislature approved a bill that allows "advanced manufacturing" projects to be exempt from environmental review. These projects could include manufacturing semiconductors, making lithium ion batteries and the production of rare earth materials, all of which involve poisonous chemicals and toxic waste. https://horizonskyline.net/2026/03/27/if-you-think-gov-newsom-cares-about-californias-environment-think-again/ #environment #Newsom #SB131 #toxicwaste #CANews

To deal with declining flows in the Colorado River, the Trump administration has proposed cutting water deliveries to California, Nevada and Arizona. The share California receives could be slashed between 29% and 33%. This would be a big problem for LA. https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2026-03-04/trump-administration-rethink-colorado-river-plans #ColoradoRiver #water #LANews

@Claudeai I am so glad to see Anthropic pushing back against the US Dept. of Defense using Claude for domestic surveillance and lethal autonomous weapons systems. I realize this could cost Anthropic a lot of money, but Amodei should not back down. I'm glad that Anthropic has the courage to take a moral stand. https://www.ft.com/content/0c6b63b6-2524-4ba7-9f7a-e7183b29386f #AI #Anthropic #Claude #ethics #Amodei #Hegseth

As flows from the Colorado River decline, negotiations between the seven states that use its water seem to be going nowhere. If the talks do fail, the Federal government may step in, and California's allocation of water from Hoover Dam could be cut by up to 33%. https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2026-02-05/colorado-river-negotiations-failing #water #ColoradoRiver #environment #CANews
