@hobson Yes! It's really good for that. Many times now when I want to check something I've previously noted down, I can just search my own wiki 😊
@hobson @woozle @dredmorbius @aral @bananarama actually, #kialo models the arguments as a directed acyclic graph, not as a tree: You can link arguments to multiple places. Only the visualization is a tree.

I asked #chatgpt to write me an essay, with citations, about a scientific topic I know very well (bat crawling behaviour). It wrote a bad essay that didn’t really say much, but cited two papers with which I wasn’t familiar, in very good journals. I was freaked out! How did I not know those papers?
Turns out, chatgpt just made them up. The papers don’t exist. That’s a handy thing to know.

🔖 Statistical code in a high-impact medical journal

A journal started asking authors to submit code with their manuscripts. They then analysed the next 314 papers accepted

87% denied using code, even when publishing substantial statistical analysis

10% used code but refused to share it with the journal

For the few that provided code, none scored even moderately on basic quality criteria

Two questions for Fediverse devs:

1) Is there a compliance testing suite for ActivityPub? How well do Mastodon, Pleroma, GoToSocial etc support the standard spec?

2) Can AcitivityPub be implemented over a static filesystems or does it necessarily involve a database?

Seriously though, fedi was *built* by furries, trans and queer folk, disabled neurodivergent people.

This is *the reason* the culture here is what it is. Why CWs are a thing. Why image descriptions are a thing. Why privacy matters here. Why moderation tools not only exist, but are usable — and used.

If you had joined and asked yourself "wow, how come this place is so chill and kinda… nice?" — that's thanks to all the nice people from communities some people call "weird".

So #KeepFediWeird.

A cryptobro DMed me to ask if I wanted to join his mailing list.

I spent slightly too long making this to send in reply.

To get started I recommend following and checking out the toots of @feditips and @FediFollows
