Just finished the final (?) installment of the Laundry Files by @cstross : The Regicide Report. Just a little spoiler...it is very good and everyone should read the whole series. Turning back now. I spy an abandoned wrench on the side of the road. A bit of dirt on it, but not rusty. I will take it with me...it is still functional, and why waste something that could be useful?

In the past, Vi and I would go on bike rides, and I would find many things on the road. Many nails and screws...I am sure I saved many a tire.

Vi did some sniffing around the fallen hedge apples. I remember flinging these when I was a youngling. But, they are too soggy to fling today.

I have since learned they evolved to be digested by one of the megafauna that was wiped out from the Americas. Giant sloths, I believe. I feel sad for those lost creatures. And the hedges that cannot spread like they desire because their partners are gone.
