Nearly 500,000 russian citizens enjoyed European holidays last year. Meanwhile, Ukrainians were dying on the battlefield.

It’s time to end Schengen tourist visas for russian tourists. Holidays in the EU are a privilege, not a right for citizens of a country waging war on our continent.

#AppFatigue IPA: /æp/ /fəˈtiːɡ/ (n) The tendency to NOT install new apps on your mobile phone because you finally understand that most apps should just be a website so you can seamlessly use a service on a PC, laptop, tablet or mobile device. Also a sign of distrust as apps are black boxes with access to a lot of data sources that invade your privacy in ways you can hardly quantify.

This!! I am yelling this too!!

And it’s yet another one of the things where now when I yell it, I have to specify that it’s something I’ve been telling students and companies alike since long before the release of GPT, because otherwise people assume it’s just a reaction to gen AI:

“Generating code is by •far• the easiest part of programming.”

“No matter the source, don’t let code into your project unless you understand what it does.”

“Programming languages exist for humans to communicate with other humans. Code does not just make machines go; it encodes and reifies human mental models. Good code communicates •intent•; very bad code has no coherent intent at all.”

and so on

I feel sorry for people who spent thousands on World Cup tickets only to have their visas revoked, but a lot of us have been saying for a long time not to come here.

We have a fascist regime here. People are being put in camps without due process. Visitors are screened for their political views, which may be why some football fans are being turned away.

These people should consider themselves lucky they are losing only their money, and not their liberty.

Remember the vacuum tube train? The car tunnels? The brain implant chip? The humanoid robots? Making government “efficient”? An AGI based on… tweets (wtf)?

But sure, colonizing Mars is totally real.

Trump regime takes aim at crucial ocean monitoring network. Ships will be dispatched this month to remove the more than 900 deep-sea instruments that comprise the network, one of the world’s most trusted sources of climate and oceanic data. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/trump-administration-takes-aim-at-crucial-ocean-monitoring-network/

Everyone talks about not having senior devs in the future because we’re replacing the juniors with LLMs, but nobody’s talking about losing senior devs now because people who are competent and care about the quality of their work are leaving this LLM-infested hellscape of a career path to go into carpentry, hostelry, or subsistence farming

Threat intel and Cybersecurity research firms: if you're not providing RSS feeds to your blog, you're hurting your brand.

Whatever traffic you think you're driving to the site by preventing analysts from ingesting feeds is outweighed by the reputational damage of not providing a service we expect and rely on.

And if your reason is because it's hard behind Cloudflare, well, you're telling on yourself twice.

Quick and restrained.

Imagine if someone photocopied every book in the public library, burned the library down, and then opened a subscription service for the copies.

That's the AI business model.

And here's how they're pitching their slop to us.

Sam Altman: “We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a metre."
