Nico Wilterdink has died. He was a classical member of the Amsterdam School of sociology. Historically oriented, strongly influenced by Elias. He was a very friendly colleague at @fmg-uva.bsky.social. He looked back with fond memories to the @eui-eu.bsky.social where he had been a visiting fellow.

In the meantime, any Dutch resident or citizen can sign the petition against the budget cuts to higher eduction - 1 billion, which for universities means about 10% of their budgets - and for students will mean financial penalties if they take longer: https://campagnes.degoedezaak.org/campaigns/stop-de-bezuinigingen-op-hoger-onderwijs

Was this a Nobel Prize for Sociology? When I read this part of the prize’s report on Acemoglu et al, I read Abram de Swaan - In Care of the State 1988.

I will talk about social mobility though :-) Feel I should go back to studying school-to-work. Maybe I should write a paper: “A sociological take on education, skills and labour markets”, and try to get it in an Econ journal.
